About the Author
The late James Stewart received his M.S. from Stanford University and his Ph.D. from the University of Toronto. He did research at the University of London and was influenced by the famous mathematician George Polya at Stanford University. Stewart was most recently Professor of Mathematics at McMaster University, and his research field was harmonic analysis. Stewart was the author of a best-selling calculus textbook series published by Cengage Learning, including CALCULUS, CALCULUS: EARLY TRANSCENDENTALS, and CALCULUS: CONCEPTS AND CONTEXTS, as well as a series of precalculus texts.

Why don't they publish solutions to the even problems?

I bought this for one particularly difficult problem I was working on. I thought I had the solution but wanted to see what the author's solution was. When I received the solutions manual I was disappointed to find out that my problem was not in it since it was an even one. It is certainly not a problem that would ever be assigned for homework in a class. People who want to cheat will always find ways to cheat. Keeping solutions secret only hinders student who are actually trying to learn.
That said the solutions that are in this book look well written.

This solutions manual was extremely helpful completing homework and preparing for quizes and tests. I would not have been able to make an A in the class without it.

What's covored is good

Only the odd number problems are covored in this book. I haven't figured out yet how you are expected to learn from doing the exercises if you don't have access to detailed solutions? Practice only makes perfect if you can learn from your mistakes, all the even exercises are worthless unless you can determine if you got the wrong answer and why?
The odd numbered exercises that are covored were very helpful to me; in some cases the explanations copuld be more detailed but for the most part enough info is given for me to find my error.
