About the Author
Deborah K. Padgett, Ph.D., MPH, is a professor at the New York University School of Social Work. She received her doctorate in urban anthropology in 1979 and completed post-doctoral programs in mental health services research at Columbia University School of Public Health (1985-86) and Duke University Department of Psychiatry (1994-95). Dr. Padgett's research interests include breast cancer screening and follow-up care for medically underserved women and qualitative studies of the 'process' of care for psychiatrically disabled homeless adults.

Worst Textbook Ever!

This is hands down the worst textbook I have ever bought; for the price I was expecting something useful that I would learn from, not a random collection of journal entries. As a PhD student this was a required textbook and was not chosen by the school based on value to the learner/student. I have written a letter to the provost to complain and ask for justification as to why this textbook was chosen.

Read if Mandated

The book is tremendously boring. The introduction, written by the editor, was so littered with qualitative research lingo that you need to be a master to understand her assertions. This book is for a doctoral program introductory course to qualitative research. Maybe it might have been appreciated by students in the advanced stages of this type of research.

This book is extremely and Unreasonably costly; no phenomenology; no standard methodological/designs presentation; sounds like a book of the 1980s.
