About the Author
Dr. Barry R. Cournoyer has been a social work practitioner for more than 40 years and a university teacher for more than 35 years. He received his M.S.S.W. degree from the University of Tennessee and the D.S.W. degree from the University of Utah. He is Emeritus Professor with the Indiana University School of Social Work, where he taught for 32 years. A former Associate Dean with the School, he remains interested in student learning assessment and quality improvement activities in social work education. In addition to this eighth edition of THE SOCIAL WORK SKILLS WORKBOOK, he co-authored THE SOCIAL WORK PORTFOLIO and the Seventh Edition of SOCIAL WORK PROCESSES -- all published by Brooks/Cole-Cengage. He also authored THE EVIDENCE-BASED SOCIAL WORK SKILLS BOOK, published by Allyn & Bacon.

Review of Material

I had to buy this book for a senior social welfare class and so far I am unimpressed with this book. If you are looking for a review of material this is the right book for you. However if you are interested in teaching older students than I would keep looking at other texts. I have had another text book from the same author and I was displeased with the last text as well. I would not recommend this test nor the other.

Updated and concise.

The book has concise information in how to create a portfolio for the Social Work program, also bring specific guidelines without deviating from the main purpose which is to help a student (future social worker to become more organized on tasks and filing information properly).
I did like that it was easy to use and follow. what I did not like was that has only a paper version which for the modern world, I believe the book should come with a link to a portfolio web site. The university I am right now at, had purchase the rights for a e-portfolio in order to apply this information in a more modern society based on internet expansions.
I would recommend the book to S W teacher to use with students, to SW students and to any senior student in a sociology or social science.
