About the Author
Following graduation from Michigan State University in 1966, Dr. Lauralee Sherwood joined the faculty at West Virginia University, where she is currently a Professor in the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology, School of Medicine. For the past 40 years, Professor Sherwood has taught an average of over 400 students each year in physiology courses for pharmacy, medical technology, physical therapy, occupational therapy, nursing, medical, dental, dental hygiene, nutrition, exercise physiology, and athletic training majors. She has authored three physiology textbooks: HUMAN PHYSIOLOGY: FROM CELLS TO SYSTEMS, FUNDAMENTALS OF HUMAN PHYSIOLOGY, and ANIMAL PHYSIOLOGY: FROM GENES TO ORGANISMS, all published by Cengage Learning/Brooks/Cole. Dr. Sherwood has received numerous teaching awards, including an Amoco Foundation Outstanding Teacher Award, a Golden Key National Honor Society Outstanding Faculty Award, two listings in Who's Who Among America's Teachers, and the Dean's Award of Excellence in Education.

Got the info and not too dry

It is a text book so clearly not something I would have expected myself to sit down and read for pleasure. However I have discovered I love all the complex, but valuable info and it is relatively easy to understand. In comparison to other text books I have read this is and A+. Also was delivered quickly and the book was perfect.

Although my teacher does not require us to read complete chapters, this book has been a great supplement to the concepts I do not understand in lecture.

Suitable Substitute for 8 Ed.

I bought this textbook for a college physiology course. I’ve kept up with the class so far, and can’t seem to see any differences except for table/figure placement on the pages. The newer 8th edition was release only 3 years later, so I know I’m not missing out on vital information.
I give it 3 stars because there are some sections that lack information (e.g. brain stem section of CNS – no detail given on midbrain/pons/medulla, simply skims over vital information), or, when enough detail is provided, it is written in such a way that it only confuses you more as you read (e.g. how photoreceptors transduce light into action potentials).
Still, it’s rudimentary enough to grasp the concept—and I have no anatomy background. This textbook is great only if your instructor is requesting the 8th edition, or you want an AP teen in high school to get ahead.
